I played Gunbound in '93!

Gunbound is this network game that the teens have been playing at the Internet shops. I have never played Gunbound since it came out last year. But I played it when I was in college back in '93!

When I observed Gunbound being played at a few Internet shops I've been to lately, I realized that Gunbound is a remake of a DOS game named Scorch! (thanks to bespren jor for helping me recall the name of the game).

Scorch was a DOS program (an exe file!) that we used to run using Windows 3.1. Scorch had tanks symbolized by a horizontal line and a diagonal line like
/_ or _\
Then players would have to gun down each other's tank. We had a variety of weapons to choose from, each with its unique explosive powers.

Players would take turns on the keyboard keying in selected weapon and the trajectory of the weapon.

What was fun was that the tanks would kantiyaw one another on screen with words like "Walang hiya ka!" or "You missed!" or "Patay kang bata ka!"

But bespren jorey told me last night that there was a text file which can be edited to change the words of kantiyaw.

Boy, we sure had afternoons of sheeeeeer fun playing Scorch.

The game was actually "Scorched Earth". Somebody created a 3d version of it called Scorched 3d. All the fun that came with the original Scorched Earth :)

    airwind,

siya, while we're at it ....

when i was in UPLB back in 1991, we had a JEOPARDY game we played at a computer shop. siyempre puro kami mayayabang at akala namin matatalino kaming magkaka-barkada! hahaha! tapos we'd be interrupted by this virus called ... ano nga ba ... something like "demon". uso pa nun ang Mona Lisa virus (or was it da vinci virus).

we also spent many hours at Mother's cantee playing "tank". Tapos in the last 5 seconds of the two-player game, we would shoot each other's tank! nyahhaha! ipa-basa ko nga ito sa mga UPLB friends ko.....

    I remember the Possessed virus.

I was playing an NBA game for the PC (it was from the 89-90 season, and had the Lakers vs. Celtics title) with my barkada, and all of a sudden everything went black, except for a faint outline of a demon.

Natakot kami. Nag-basketball na lang. Hahahaha.
